Pemanfaatan Tradisional dan Tataniaga Kura-Kura di Merauke Provinsi Papua (Traditional Utilizationand Trading System of Tortoise in Merauke, Papua Province)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Tortoise for some Papuans are commodities that are not only for fulfilling protein needs, but also for obtaining some money to fulfill other living needs. This research aims to know the shape of the tortoiseutilization by the public and trading system. The research method used is descriptive qualitative and tabulation analysis by looking at the relevance of data and information so that it can answer the substance of this research. The results of the study showed that the use of turtles by the community besides being consumed was also traded. The high economic value of turtles causes hunting of these animals to be quite high, so that their presence in the field has been very difficult to find. The tortoise trading system is almost the same as other commodities obtained in nature such as Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs). It is expected that with this study, the provision of quotas for tortoise needs to be properly and correctly determined, especially those obtained from nature, so that the existence of these animals can be sustainable.
